World War Z Movie Review

DISCLAIMER: THIS REVIEW IS SPOILER FREE

OVERVIEW:

World War Z is a 2013 film starring Brad Pitt that deals with an unexpected zombie outbreak and how humanity fights for it’s survival.

PLOT:

World War Z takes you through a very unexpected zombie outbreak through the eyes of Gerry Lane (Pitt) as he tries to fight for his family’s lives. However, his past comes back in his life and employs him to find out the origins of the zombie outbreak.

REVIEW:

To be honest, I was not looking forward to seeing this film whatsoever, the zombies looked cheesy in the trailers compared to the zombies in the AMC show The Walking Dead. Thankfully I was completely wrong about this movie! The movie is very fast paced with appropriate breaks in the action to dive into the mystery of the origins of the zombie apocalypse.

One thing I was pleasantly surprised about is that this movie wasn’t an average zombie movie where you strictly fight for survival. Of course you had the fight for survival in World War Z, BUT, you also get a mystery of finding the origins of the zombie outbreak, to give the viewers an idea that there is a glimmer of hope in this movie for the survival of humanity.

But this movie has one flaw that I couldn’t get past, there is a situation that Gerry Lane (Pitt) gets into that could lead to a life or death situation but they just push it off to the side without resolving it in some manner. Which in turn makes me question why even have that scene in the movie if you’re not gonna resolve it?

VERDICT:

World War Z is an amazing film that also serves as a great launching pad into the zombie craze that is sweeping the nation. With only a PG-13 rating World War Z keeps much of the violence out of the movie making it more bearable for some viewers. I would recommend buying World War Z on Blu Ray

Looper Movie Review

DISCLAIMER: THIS REVIEW IS SPOILER FREE

OVERVIEW:

Looper is a 2012 science fiction, time travel movie that stars Joseph Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis, wrestling with the idea and consequences of time travel.

PLOT:

The film Looper is the story about Joe (Joseph Gordon Levitt) being a Looper and being at a certain area at a specific time to kill certain unknown people from the future and “closing their loop”. But what happens when the person you are supposed to kill, is the future version of yourself?

REVIEW:

Looper right off the bat is one heck of a movie, it’s smart, deep in story, and even funny at times. One thing that I absolutely loved, is how the film will pull you into this world of time travel and Loopers and really make you feel like you are in the movie.

The acting in the movie is really great as well, and the makers of this movie cared enough to transform Joseph Gordon Levitt with make up to make him look more like a younger Bruce Willis, which in turn makes the movie that much more believable, props to them! The story behind Looper is deep and immersive, however it could be a bit too dark for some viewers, so keep that in mind.

But every film comes with it’s share of problems and luckily Looper only has two problems that bothered me. First off, this film is set in the future, but 90% of the vehicles they drive are vehicles you would find on the road in 2012. The solution? Slap some solar panels on the car to make it look futuristic, it’s like covering up a DVD player with Blu Ray stickers and calling it a Blu Ray. The second and biggest problem I had with Looper was unnecessary nudity in two scenes of the film. It had nothing to do with the plot whatsoever and just seemed to be thrown in there to attract more men to the theaters to get a 5 minute peep show.

But even with the film being rated R, one thing I will applaud it on is that it did not take full advantage of its R rating with violence, I find that very classy and mature for an R rated film to pull back on the reigns a little in the violence department.

VERDICT:

Overall, Looper is a fantastic film dealing with the effects and consequences of time travel and the severity of the choices we make. For parents out there, I would recommend watching this one without you’re children due to the mature content presented in the film. But for the rest of the movie viewers, I would recommend buying Looper on Blu Ray if you’re into a heavy science fiction/time travel film, and don’t mind mature content.

Now You See Me Movie Review

SYNOPSIS:

Now You See Me is a 2013 film that is based around 4 magicians called the Four Horseman, and the amazing tricks that they can pull off together. But when a trick gets the attention of the FBI, the Four Horseman have to pull off their greatest tricks to allude the FBI.

REVIEW:

I came into this movie expecting you’re typical magic movie, but instead it gives you a heist movie that has magic as a key player in the film, but the thing that surprised me the most with this movie is the crazy twists and turns it has. The one gripe that some people might have with this movie is that Now You See Me requires you to pay attention the whole time to fully grasp everything that is happening. In my opinion, that is not a fault in the film, that is actually a very good thing. The acting was very good in the movie, mostly because the Four Horseman had very distinct and different forms of personalities and magic that melded into four incredible characters working as one. Also, having Micheal Caine and Morgan Freeman in a movie as supporting characters is never a bad route to go.

Now, what should you do if you’re in your local store and stumble upon Now You See Me? If you are a fan of magic movies, and are ready for a roller coaster of a time, I would recommend buying this on Blu Ray.
