Background

The Imitation Game is the latest film from Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch portraying Alan Turping during World War II as he attempts to break the German Enigma.

Plot

The Imitation Game finds the world engulfed in World War II with the Axis powers ravaging the Allies. The Allies and Alan Turping have an idea to build a machine that can decode the secret German messages and turn the tide of war.

Review

The Imitation Game is one of the few bright spots in the garbage months of film. I was expecting a lot from this film, knowing that it has multiple Oscar nominations including one for Best Picture. This movie did not disappoint.

The Good

The main thing that is strong with this movie is the story of Alan Turping. This movie uses a lot of flashbacks going back to his childhood to explain why he is the way he is which is used perfectly.

Benedict Cumberbatch always brings his A game, but in The Imitation Game he raises his acting to an entire new level. There is a scene in the last ten minutes of the film that I believe is the scene that won him an Oscar nomination, absolutely wonderful acting.

With the story of a group of Allies attempting to break the German’s secret code in WWII sounds a little dry, but I promise you there are some seriously intense scenes in this movie. Also keep in mind that this is an emotionally investing movie, what I mean by this is that you will walk out of the movie feeling emotionally drained in a good way.

The Bad

A war’s amount of nothing.

The Verdict

The Imitation Game is an amazing film and I can whole heartedly understand why this film has been nominated for a number of Oscars, including Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch and Best Picture. I recommend seeing The Imitation Game in theaters before the Oscars, you will not be disappointed.
